International Individuals
I specially welcome international people — people originally from outside the United States — to my practice. “Living abroad is both wonderful and stressful.” The Portland community is improved because you are here, and it is my goal to help you adjust to life in the United States and the city of Portland.
Living abroad is both wonderful and stressful. Even naturalized US citizens and other long-time international residents often experience anxiety and other stress from living outside their home culture. The support of a counselor can soften the stress and help you feel safe when taking risks.
Do you sometimes stay in your home instead of going out because you’re tired from interacting with the local culture? Do you feel nervous when communicating in English, or do you feel like Americans never seem to understand your lingo? Do you wish you were in the comfort of the place where you grew up? These are all normal feelings. Even international people who have been in the US for many years still feel this way sometimes.
I have personal experience with living overseas. I lived in Japan for 3 years, where I spent a few hours every Sunday doing counseling for other international folks. I know that international adjustment is very difficult, especially in your first 1 or 2 years. I also know that support from someone who understands your situation can be valuable. That’s why I offer discounted rates for international Portland residents.
If you want support for feeling more comfortable here in Portland, read how to set an appointment and get in contact with me for a consultation session. I look forward to hearing from you.
